Renesa on the World Wide Web

Welcome folks. The website for Renesa is up and running. As you must have noticed, there isn't much content on the site yet and we are working on it. Also the forums are incomplete and empty. We will soon be creating relevant forums.

Allow me to introduce you to this site.
We wanted the Renesa site to be functional and pleasing to the eye and yet not bandwidth heavy. We also wanted it to be the online mouthpiece of the college. The site would also serve as a place where all of you could provide your feedback on our articles, express your views on the content and thereby shape future issues of Renesa.
We also wanted Web 2.0 features on the site. Therefore you can bookmark content so that other users can read those bookmarked articles. You will be able to rate articles and consequently let us know what type of content is popular. You can share links of the content on various social networking sites like Facebook, Orkut, Digg, Delicious, Yahoo Buzz, MySpace, Twitter and even through email. Just click on the "Share it" link above a post.

Of course,most features on this site are only available to registered users. Alternatively you may use your Open ID to log on to this site and we will relevant information about you from the Open ID servers. To get an Open ID click here.

Also please be informed that all your actions are logged and so your IP address. Cookies are stored to identify returning users even if they are using different IPs each time. So please think 10 times before posting any uncensored, abusive or pornographic content on the site. Your account will be blocked immediately and we will get to you and so will Hostel Section. Also all user accounts will be verified by sending an SMS to the mobile number you specify. So basically there is no way you can escape by doing anything unwarranted on this site.

Well lets get back to the features. We also have blogs from Renesa members on this site. Plus there are feed aggregators that will aggregate RSS/Atom feeds from various sites including Renesa twitter account, twitter accounts of many of our members, feeds from their personal blogs or sites and put them up on this site. So you can access your desired content right from here.

The search facility works very accurately and all content (including forum posts, comments, feeds, blog posts, articles etc) is indexed every 20 minutes. Also advanced search is available where you can use boolean algebra.

We also have polls to capture your views on a regular basis. We will try to integrate SMS with these polls so that you can send in your replies via SMS but that should take some time. By the way, is anyone interested in implementing this feature? Also we have a recommendation engine that will recommend you content based on your past reading history (like Youtube does). Also this site will calculate your affinity to other users based on what type of content you access. But for all this to work, we first need some good content on the site. And we are working on that as you read this.

We will soon(by Monday) have chatrooms on the site :) So just wait a bit. We have lives beyond Renesa too, if you missed that.Also you should have a good Wordpress like editor (FCKEditor) to edit your post

What else would you like to see on the site? Would you like to create groups for further discussion on various topics. Or would you like to have Orkut like scrapbooks or Facebook style walls for every user. Do you want this site to be a content provider or morph into a complete social networking and/or activity networking site for SVNITians? Let us know your view by leaving comments on this post.

Most of our editors generally submit huge articles for print which are then shortened to meet the space requirements of the mag. Would you like to read the original draft on the site? Or for that matter would you like only the PDF version or would you like individual articles to be posted on the site. Many of our articles never get printed due to space constraints. Would you like to see them here?

Hmm. Do I have anything else to say? Oh yes, we need maintainers for this site. Anyone interested? You will be trained by Agent248 on how to maintain this site and the technology that powers this site. So do let us know. Also emailing does not seem to be working yet due to some unknown error with the configuration of the college mail server. Until then you will not be able to receive automated updates and password recovery mails from the site. If in trouble, send a mail to dev.sandip@gmail.com. We will sort things out in less than 3 hours.
